Zounds was founded by Sam Thomasson, an Engineer and entrepreneur who has spent his career developing new technologies in the medical device and consumer electronics industries. Sam is also the father of a hearing-impaired daughter and has witnessed the problems associated with today’s hearing aids. Sam promised his daughter that he would develop a hearing aid to address the key problems common with other high-end hearing aids. Zounds’ breakthrough technology is the fulfillment of a father’s promise to his daughter and the solution for dissatisfied hearing aid users around the world.

Zounds utilizes a combination of internally developed and exclusively licensed technology from Acoustic Technologies, Inc., where Sam Thomasson is the founder and former CEO. At Acoustic Technologies, Sam created high-performance semiconductor chips and related software with low power usage algorithms that dramatically improved voice and sound quality in cell phones, video phones, desktop phones, conference call phones and automotive communication systems. For Sam, it was a logical extension to leverage this superior technology at Zounds.

Zounds’ goal is to offer a portfolio of hearing aids and wireless devices that provide the world’s best performing technology at an affordable price to anyone with a mild, moderate, or moderate/severe hearing loss.

Our long term customers often ask about Kate, and want to know how she is doing. The little girl who inspired the Zounds revolution is now a senior in college, studying electrical engineering. Inspired by her father, she wants to follow in his footsteps by helping others through technology. During school breaks, Kate works with the Zounds team on new technologies that she will someday benefit from herself.

Don Evans, Owner
Don Evans is a graduate of Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan (BSEEE ’82; MSI&OE ’88; MBA ’88).  Between his undergraduate and graduate work, Don served as an officer in the US Navy and was assigned to the USS Hammerhead (SSN-663).  After spending 25 years in Information Technology Consulting, Don is now working on his M.Div degree at Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary.

As Don was considering various employment options to support his studies and subsequent ministry work, he came across the opportunity at Zounds Hearing.  The concept was founded with the goal of helping one individual but has now turned into a company focused on benefiting many people by providing advanced hearing aids at a reasonable price.  Don was excited about joining a relatively young company, with a competitive product, and a focused mission.  Zounds Hearing is one of the fastest growing hearing aid companies and Don looks forward to being part of this beneficial service for many years to come.

Don and his wife have been married for over 25 years and live in Canton, MI.  They have two sons who are in the process of starting careers of their own.

Jeremy Nordquist (H.I.S)
Jeremy Nordquist, H.I.S.,is a hearing aid specialist and dealer in the state of Michigan. He has been fitting and helping clients since 2007. Hearing loss had been a problem in his family, so when presented with a way to help people with their hearing needs, he jumped at the opportunity.

Jeremy is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University (2000). There he was a four-year varsity letter winner in baseball. He enjoys all sports, both being involved in and watching various professional and college teams, as well as spending time with his wife of four years.
