Do You Hear That Wilmington!
Zounds Hearing Enters Delaware and Brings the Gift of Hearing
Vince Papale Helps Celebrate Zounds’ Opening at the Concord MallWilmington, Del. – May 15, 2008 – Zounds Hearing, a unique manufacturing and retail company focused on providing hearing aids with state-of-the-art fidelity, price point and professional service, opened its doors recently in the Concord Mall. This marks the first hearing center in Delaware and the fourth location in the greater-Philadelphia area.
More than 10 years ago, Zounds Founder Sam Thomasson, promised his hearing-impaired daughter that he would create a new hearing aid to overcome her annoyance with her aids due to excessive feedback, poor sound quality and discomfort in the ear. That promise led him to create the technology behind Zounds and raise the necessary funds to expand nationally.
The official grand opening celebration will take place Tuesday, May 20, 2008 from 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Vince Papale, former Philadelphia Eagles’ wide receiver, local resident and inspiration for the movie “Invincible” will be at the grand opening event. Vince knows the struggles associated with hearing loss and the necessity of proactive treatment as his wife is a longtime hearing aid user. He will sign autographs and take photographs with fans and customers. Zounds President and CEO, John Costello, will also be in attendance.
“We are thrilled to be opening another hearing center and Wilmington is the perfect place for our 15th location,” said Thomasson. “With almost 10 percent of the U.S. population suffering from hearing loss, we will continue to develop and provide affordable state-of-the-art hearing aids for the treatment of hearing loss across the United States.”
Wilmington and Twilight Wish Foundation
Given the opportunity to have any wish fulfilled, an 84-year-old contacted the Twilight Wish Foundation, a nearby Pennsylvania-based not-for-profit dedicated to enriching the lives of seniors across the country by making their dreams come true. Her wish was not for herself, but for her friend, Olga Pugliese of Telford, Penn. She wished Olga would be able to hear her daughters again and talk on the phone. Zounds Hearing will grant Olga’s wish in its ongoing efforts with the Twilight Wish Foundation by presenting her with a pair of Zounds state-of-the-art hearing aids.
“It is an honor to see our wish recipients enjoying life once again,” said Costello. “It is one way Zounds can say ‘thank you’ to well-deserving seniors and give them back the gift of hearing.”
Wilmington Hearing Loss
According to a MarkeTrack survey, hearing loss affects about one in 10 people in the U.S. population, while 30 percent of people above age 60 are affected by hearing loss. In Wilmington alone, nearly 13 percent of the population is above 65, which means there is a significant percent of people are likely affected by hearing loss. Remarkably, only 20 percent of those that need hearing aids actually wear them!
Zounds Hearing aids feature breakthrough technology and design, including:

• Exceptional voice clarity and enhanced feedback cancellation that virtually eliminates the squealing that traditional aids are known for
• Rechargeable batteries and remote control to fine tune one’s listening experiences throughout the day or night
