Zounds was founded by Sam Thomasson, an Engineer and entrepreneur who has spent his career developing new technologies in the medical device and consumer electronics industries. Sam is also the father of a hearing-impaired daughter and has witnessed the problems associated with today’s hearing aids. Sam promised his daughter that he would develop a hearing aid to address the key problems common with other high-end hearing aids. Zounds’ breakthrough technology is the fulfillment of a father’s promise to his daughter and the solution for dissatisfied hearing aid users around the world.Zounds utilizes a combination of internally developed and exclusively licensed technology from Acoustic Technologies, Inc., where Sam Thomasson is the founder and former CEO. At Acoustic Technologies, Sam created high-performance semiconductor chips and related software with low power usage algorithms that dramatically improved voice and sound quality in cell phones, video phones, desktop phones, conference call phones and automotive communication systems. For Sam, it was a logical extension to leverage this superior technology at Zounds. Zounds’ goal is to offer a portfolio of hearing aids and wireless devices that provide the world’s best performing technology at an affordable price to anyone with a mild, moderate, or moderate/severe hearing loss.
Our long term customers often ask about Kate, and want to know how she is doing. The little girl who inspired the Zounds revolution is now a senior in college, studying electrical engineering. Inspired by her father, she wants to follow in his footsteps by helping others through technology. During school breaks, Kate works with the Zounds team on new technologies that she will someday benefit from herself.
Hi my name is Joseph Dumont and I’m the Hearing Instrument Specialist here in Warwick.
Originally, I had no idea of entering the Hearing Aid profession. I have had a diverse group of experiences in my working life-from working with explosives, shooting quarries in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, to management in the largest privately owned waste & recycling company in New England. As it happened though, I had lost much of my high frequency hearing. In groups it seemed as though all the conversations ran together, and of course there was my wife’s ever present complaint that I had the TV on too loud.
But it was when my first grandchild came along and sat on grandpa’s knee and said, “)$&@-3?!$&@@$???” Being generous she gave me a second chance and said, $&@-3?!$&@@$???. Then she jumped off my lap, no doubt figuring that grandpa was too old to understand speech. That’s when I looked at my daughter, my granddaughter’s mother, and asked what Livvie had said to me. “She was wondering if you could buy her some candy,” Rose said. That’s when I decided I needed to do something—I couldn’t even talk to my own grandchildren. So I went to see a friend of mine who was fitting hearing aids and told him I had wax blocking my ears. But there was no wax. I was slowly going deaf. So I bought two hearing aids and a new profession. And I love it. For me there is no better job in the world! I get to help people re-connect with the people they love.
Restored hearing get’s you back in the middle of things. It keeps you young. Before I got my instruments instead of being the life of the party, I was the death of the party. If you keep asking people to repeat themselves, or keep saying “what did you say?” soon they don’t even bother. Oh they won’t say anything about your hearing loss, you’re just left out.
Since I got my hearing instruments, Livvie and I can go off on trips to take wonderful photos, or can go to the beach together. My hearing aids mean a lot to me but even more to her. It’s never too late to invest in your life, to re-connect. Do it for yourself. Do it for those who love you.
I give you my personal guarantee that your life can improve through better hearing with a Zounds Hearing System. Why not try it? You have nothing to lose.
